Wow a lot has happened in the past 5 days. I haven’t blogged since I haven’t had the time and honestly am absolutely exhausted at the end of the day!! Internet is not easy to come by out here unless you have one of those air cards OR want to pay at one of the truck stops. Still have to figure out what we will do but I do have my iphone but didn’t feel like typing with one finger!!!
Okay so now to update you on my life for the last five days. I must say I hit the lottery with my trainer. I was scared I was going to end up with the nightmare trainer and it couldn’t be further from the truth. Carl is my trainer. He is out of Houston TX which is the only bad thing I have to say. Just kidding. I had heard so many horrible things that I really didn’t know what to expect. He is married has 6 kids and 3 grandkids. He picked me up at my sleazy hotel (yes he agreed that is was sleazy) handed me a set of keys put me in the drivers seat. It has been a blast since. At least for me. I am having a lot of fun!! Carl has such patience and just gives me good advice and the correct way to do things. I have been in 5 states and by the end of today it will be 7. I am realizing that it starts to run together LOL. I have to think about what state I am in.
I am feeling really confident (except for alley docking but I’ll get to that later) I need to slow down on turns into truck stops and need some practice backing but that is what these 3 weeks are about. My first stop was a ridiculous alley dock and I looked at Carl and said there is no way I am doing that. Next stop I had to try and it wasn’t a very nice dock. I did it but we won’t mention the Lexus I almost took out. Almost is the key word. It didn’t help that I had all the guys from the dock watching plus a work crew our front. But I did it. I am really having a good time out here. Carl makes it a lot of fun! We have a lot of time to talk and thank goodness he does or it would be extremely boring. We talk a lot about our families which is nice!
There are some things I didn’t really think about. One for the ladies some of the showers are just gross. My first shower was hysterical because I didn’t want to touch the shower curtain and I didn’t’ want to use the towel they gave me. I used my own. I also didn’t’ know how to get dressed without touching the floor. LOL. What is funny is it wasn’t one of the bad showers. I forgot my hair dryer which has been a little issue but don’t’ want to buy a new one so I’ll suffer. Carl gave me a hat to wear so it’s ok.
I am having a blast talking to people. Carl was laughing at me since people talk to us a lot. He says that he could sit there all day and no one would say a word. Guess being a female helps. I was told my first day I should be a movie star instead of a truck driver which of course made my day. There are so many interesting things to see and the people are a hoot. I guess I am such a newbie that everything is an adventure still even after 5 whole days LOL.
I am enjoying it way more than I thought I would. I do miss my husband, daughter and the puppies. I think Craig and I are going to have an absolute ball doing this trucking thing.
I also didn’t realize how exhausted I would be. I was worried about sleeping on a truck and would I be able to sleep. HECK YEAH!! I am so tired by the end of the day I fall asleep instantly. I didn’t think my body would hurt as much as it does. I ache all over!! Thank god for motrin is all I have to say. Your body has to adjust to this lifestyle. Yesterday while waiting for a load Carl and I went for a walk. We made a deal that we would do something for exercise every day if we can. After watching some of the drivers walking around a truck stop makes me realize we need to stay on top of our diet and exercise LOL
Today we are heading to MS and then to TN but that might change. We started this trip in Laredo TX. One thing is out of 5 days I’ve spent 3 driving through Texas. Well it is time to hit the road. I am sure there is a bunch of things I meant to write but that will be another day.
