Anne & Craigs Great Adventure

We received our Hard Copy CDL’s in the mail today. We are now scheduled to start orientation next Monday January 3rd. We NEED to get to work. Very excited. We will be leaving for Irving TX on New Years Day.

If there is one thing I learned about the trucking industry from all of my research, it is that you need to be flexible and expect things to change.  Today started out as planned.  Anne and I went to the Colorado Motor Vehicle office to turn in our Certificate and actually get our Commercial Drivers Licenses.  No problem there.  Then we took the Hazmat Endorsement Exam.  After I passed the Hazmat, I called our recruiter in Tennessee to ask a few questions.  While I was talking to Lee, someone from US Xpress called Anne to verify application info, when Anne told him we had just gotten our CDL’s he asked if we had the hard copy with the picture on it.  Oh Oh…….  It turns out we have to have the hard copy to attend orientation.  So we are now scheduled for orientation on January 10th.  We are so ready to get to work it is very disappointing.   We just need to roll with it and as usual, God probably has a plan.  (OK, I know God has a plan, what I meant was, I probably have not come to terms with the plan yet)

So, we both passed our tests yesterday and received our Commercial Drivers Licenses. Anne is taking great joy in the fact that after I was a bit smug about my backing abilities, I pulled a 12 on the test……..13 is failing. Very close call. Regardless, that task is done. Step two is we have selected an employer. US Xpress Enterprises. We had a bit of a limited choice as an absolute deal killer was a pet policy. We head to Irving Texas the day after Christmas to start Orientation on the 27th. Three days of paperwork and testing and then we will each head out with a mentor/trainer for three weeks on the road. We are so ready to move forward with this big change in our lives.

In late summer 2010 I made a joke to Anne about becoming over the road truckers.  To my surprise, she thought it sounded like a great idea…………………….

So this is really all her fault!
